5 Food Additives You Must Live Without

Do you know your food additives? If you do, you can successfully avoid health pitfalls in the future by avoiding them. Food additives are marketed in a way that they don’t sound like they’re a threat to your health, but in reality, they are. Some food additives rile up your brain and make you hyper. Some may cause gout. Do you know what risks are involved with consuming common additives? Here are some of the worst food additives – and what foods they may be found in.

1. MSG

MSG sounds so innocuous; after all, it’s called a flavor enhancer by the food industry. What could be so bad about enhancing flavor in foods? The answer is found when you notice you have difficulty breathing, your heart rate seems to be faster, you have a monster of a headache, start wheezing, swell up and want to eat everything in sight. These are not associated with a sense of wellness!

MSG stands for monosodium glutamate, and it also overstimulates neurons in the brain, making you feel jittery or anxious for no reason at all. Read the labels of salad dressings, soups, frozen food dinners and entrees, chips and any prepared food and if the food contains MSG, choose another.

2. High Fructose Corn Syrup, or HFCS

HFCS has been linked with some not-so-pretty diseases: gout, liver cirrhosis, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke. HFCS is nothing like the fructose found in fruit. It’s highly processed and the final version looks nothing like real fructose.

Read your labels of beverages to find this bad boy – and then tell him where to take a hike. You’ll also find this food additive in baked goods.

3. Brominated Vegetable Oil

Just saying the name of this food additive is enough to make you wonder whether or not it’s healthy for you. Why should someone have to do something to a vegetable oil at all? Why can’t the vegetable oil be pure and simple and used as is?

If you have high triglycerides and high cholesterol, then Brominated Vegetable Oil is not what you ever want in your diet. It will raise your levels even higher than what they are now.

BVO can also cause liver damage and lead to health problems with other organs such as the kidneys, thyroid, heart, and reproductive organs. You’ll find it in beverages that also contain citric acid.

4. Fake Sugars

The whole artificial sweetener industry is fraught with deception. Why did we ever believe that if we used a fake sugar, it was better for us than the real thing? Artificial sweeteners have been associated with brain tumors, cancer, brain fog, headaches, and dizziness.

The aspartame sugar has caused so many health problems that there is a toll-free line dedicated to people who have experienced side effects from it and physical harm.

Fake sugars are found in all processed foods, diet foods, and many beverages.

5. BHT and BHA

These have long, drawn out names and are more easily identified by their abbreviation. If you don’t want dermatitis or skin rashes, you may want to start combing the labels of fatty foods to make sure they don’t contain BHT or BHA.
