4 Foods That Boost Your Metabolism

Everyone’s body burns fat at a different rate. There are those of us that are genetically blessed with a fast metabolism, and those of who have to put in a bit more effort to keep off the pounds due to our slow metabolism. But no matter the genetics, there is something we can all do to naturally boost our metabolism – and that is adding foods to our diet that can help our metabolism.

There are plenty of articles and PSAs out there that tell us how important it is to exercise and eat a healthy diet. But very rarely do we see foods that will actually help our body burn fat. Just by eating some of these foods, you can help build up your body’s ability to burn fat.

1. Egg whites

The perfect centerpiece of any healthy breakfast, egg whites are loaded with branched-chain amino acids, which are very good for our metabolism. There is also plenty of protein and vitamin D in egg whites to give us other health benefits as well. Next time you wake up and are looking for something to eat, skip out on the unhealthy bagels and bacon and whip up some egg whites. It’ll help you lose weight.

2. Green tea

The ideal drink to pair with your egg white breakfast, green tea has a ton of health benefits including those that help boost metabolism. The polyphenols in green tea have similar characteristics to antioxidants that are loaded with health benefits. Green tea also gives your body a shot of caffeine, at a lower rate than you get from coffee but still enough to provide your body with a boost of energy and boost your metabolism. Green tea helps with fat oxidation while resting and can limit obesity.

3. Water

It is crucial to any healthy lifestyle to drink more than enough water. When you are dehydrated – even just mildly so – you metabolism slows down. Considering that our bodies are made up of mostly water, when we don’t drink enough our bodies operate at a less efficient rate. Experts recommend drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day to help improve your energy and help you lose weight, among other health benefits. Next time you are reaching for the sports drink or soda, opt for water instead.

4. Berries

Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are all extremely beneficial to our bodies. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants that help prevent the buildup of free radicals in your body. Strawberries and raspberries are filled with anthocyanins, which have been shown to stop fat cells from getting larger. They also contain nutrients that help reduce your body’s absorption of starches and fats. It will be hard to find a more beneficial snack than berries!

While eating healthy and working out are the best ways to stay in shape, consuming these metabolism-boosting foods can’t hurt your healthy lifestyle. Every little thing helps when it comes to your health. Add these foods to your diet and you may start to see some big results.
